Maine heating prices rise

Heating oil prices are plummeting, which is putting more money in Mainers' pockets.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A Maine government survey says the average statewide price for heating oil has gone up 9 cents in the last month.

The Governor's Energy Office says the average price for heating oil according to the May 16 survey was $1.82 per gallon.

State officials say the mild winter weather meant that some dealers have still not depleted the heating fuel they purchased last spring. However, they also say the global inventory surplus that has caused prices to drop for several months is beginning to change.

Kerosene prices have gone up 6 cents to $2.34 and propane prices have fallen 2 cents to $2.21 per gallon.

The highest heating oil price on May 16 was $2.17 in eastern Maine and the lowest was $1.50 in western and southwestern Maine.
