BANGOR, Maine — EDITORS NOTE: The above video comes from our January 14th story on service returning to Bangor International Airport.
Connecting flight options from Bangor just got a little easier.
Delta Airlines just announced they will now have a daily Bangor to Boston flight starting May 5th, after adjusting schedules due to coronavirus.
In a statement released Friday, Delta said, "New England's scenic views and outdoor adventures to places like Acadia National Park offer a diversity of experiences for leisure travelers, which is why Delta is adding more flights to four destinations in the region."
Bangor International Airport Director Tony Caruso is thrilled.
"We are excited that Delta is adding service to three great destinations," said Caruso. "Daily Boston service provides our community a great destination and connection hub, and bringing back Atlanta and Detroit service will be popular with our travelers."
"We know not everyone is ready to travel just yet, but when they are they can be assured that BGR is prepared to make their journey as safe as possible," said Caruso.
Delta is also adding a Saturday service from Atlanta and Detroit, starting May 8th.
BGR has seen service return after a long year of adjustment due to the COVID pandemic.
Delta had suspended service to Bangor last July due to coronavirus. That changed March 2, 2021, when Delta returned, offering a daily flight to and from New York's LaGuardia Airport.
"We're thrilled to return to Bangor and once again offer the superior customer experience, reliability, and connectivity that Delta is known for," Delta Director of Sales Charlie Schewe said in a release at the time. "And through our Delta CareStandard, customers can also expect the highest levels of cleanliness, more space, and safer service from the moment they check-in."
JAN 14th STORY ON SERVICE RETURNING TO BANGOR
Bangor International Airport Director Tony Caruso was "thrilled."
"We are thrilled to see Delta back in the market and are hopeful that more flights will be added to their schedule in the near future," Caruso said. "COVID-19 has significantly impacted all aspects of daily life for everyone, but we are making every effort to ensure passenger and employee safety."
The new routes are a sign business continues to remain brisk in Bangor after a tough 2020.
Caruso said the 2020 low numbers were very close to the rest of the industry around the country during the pandemic.
The pandemic has made things challenging for the staff and some employees have had their hours changed because of the reduced flights, but Caruso said earlier this year, for the most part, they were able to keep everyone employed.
