Fetch ME a Home | Usha, the affectionate husky mix

Usha is four years old and looking for her forever home, where she can love all of her human family members.

WESTBROOK, Maine — If you know anything about huskies, you'll be prepared for this smart, sometimes talkative, girl named Usha. This 4-year-old is looking for her forever home right now, at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP).

Usha is a little shy but has a lot of love to give. That said, her love is mostly reserved for her human friends. The ARLGP said Usha has a high prey drive, and because of that, she would do best in a home without other pets. She likes to be the star of the show, and in return, she will give plenty of affection.

What she lacks in social skills with other animals, she more than makes up for with her strong bond with humans.

The intelligence of a dog like this thrives in a home with structure. She's loyal to those she bonds with and incredibly affectionate. If you have children, you'll want to bring them to meet with her before considering adoption, just to make sure she's the right fit for your family.

There are many ways to support the ARLGP, including some upcoming events:

On Saturday, Oct. 19, or Sunday, Oct. 20 you can sign your kids up for Paws Up Painting! Ideal for grades 3-5, these two events are a fun get-together, where kids can all learn how to paint a portrait of a cat.

And of course, join Lee Goldberg and me (Amanda Hill) on Nov. 15, as we sleep in the shelter once again! Stay tuned for details on how to donate, or donate when you come by the ARLGP and visit us in our dog kennels.

Each year, the Shelter Sleep-In gets participants together from the community to share a kennel or cat space for the night, all while raising money for the life-saving work done at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
