WESTBROOK, Maine — The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland is hoping for some help after receiving a surrender of 22 kittens and five mother cats on Wednesday.
The animals were surrendered by someone in Maine who quickly became overwhelmed with a few separate litters. ARLGP hopes to clear the shelters to make more room for these new kittens as they wait for vet appointments before they can be adopted.
Matt Blanchard is the marketing and communications coordinator for ARLGP. He brought in a few kittens getting ready for their adoption days, Janet and Sadie—though they won't be available for another week or more, so check back in for them on arlgp.org.
Blanchard said because their community is so helpful in adoptions, they had the space to take in the 22 new kittens, but their feline team has been busy. He said they could really use donations of kitten food, or toys to keep their new guests entertained.
You can also support the shelter through a few of its fundraisers, including Ales For Tails Pup Crawl which this year allows you to support the shelter by just stopping by your favorite brewery and taking part in the event on Sept. 14 and 15.
"September also starts our IDEXX match, so it's a great time for people to support us," Blanchard said. "IDEXX will match donations through 9/30 up to $25,000 so people are definitely going to see an impact whether they donate money, supplies, or even join our foster network!"
