THOMASTON, Maine — Kittens. Need we say more?
Well, we will. Clyde, Doppler, and Nimbus all took the trip from Thomaston to our studio for their on-camera debut, though they left their poor sister, Squall, behind for a not-so-pleasant spay. All four kittens are available for adoption through Pope Memorial Humane Society.
Their backstory: mom was a stray found after she had been hit by a car. She was rescued and brought to Pope Memorial, where they did some stitching on her eye and discovered she was pregnant. Her name is Raincloud, so the weather names had to continue for her kittens, who are now about 4 months old. Once she's recovered a little more she will be spayed and her damaged eye will be removed. Then she will also be available for adoption.
The three boys who came in were immediately purring and while curious, were also happy for snuggles (the newsroom had a particularly hard time letting them leave).
If you're interested in learning more about any of them, you can check the website, or stop by for a visit. Pope Memorial Humane Society is located at 25 Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston. Their hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They're closed on Sundays and the third Wednesday of each month.
On Aug. 17, you can support the shelter through Pints for Pets at the Pour Farm in Union from 4-6 p.m. Animals available for adoption will be at the event for meet-and-greets while you sip on some craft beer and help raise money for homeless pets in the area. You can learn more about the event here.
And on Sept. 21, join them for their Bark + Brew from 5-9 p.m. at Harmony Hill Farm in Warren. At this 21+ event, you can meet adoptable puppies while enjoying craft beer and wine, savoring food from local trucks, dancing to music from The Right Track Band, roasting marshmallows by the fire, and you can bid on silent auction baskets.
Money raised at the event will go directly toward providing medical care to homeless pets, and every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar. You can learn more here.
