ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Oronoka restaurant in Orono was a treasure spot for decades. Locals said they don't remember days, just memories of their nights at the diner. Eons ago, the Oronoka restaurant was a lively place full of buzz from people dining and musicians hitting the keys of instruments. Families came miles away to enjoy the upbeat music and eat big homemade portions for cheap prices. Since 2013, the once upbeat treasure spot has been wasting away.
Resident say for 11 years, this diner has been untouched; portions of the history and vibe of the restaurant have claimed a new spot out back. In the rubble, you'll find soaking wet, moldy and broken items along with a few untouched pictures. There's many collectibles that people in the community want to get keepsakes from the old restaurant.
93-year old, Katherine Musgrave said the owner cooked divine homemade meals and she always had a good time.
"Good music. I don't know how it came out whether it came from a recorder or whether it came from - oh, I don't know. I just know I was young and having fun and, so as everybody else who was there."
This local landmark will soon be torn down to make room for a new dermatology practice. Dr. Orville Hartford said his future office will hold some of the memorabilia on display in the front. He also said some of the items will be auctioned off for charity.
