SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Town & Country Federal Credit Union kicked off a series of charitable contributions to 12 southern Maine nonprofits on Tuesday to give the organizations a boost before the holidays.
Town & Country Federal Credit Union’s new "12 Days of Local Giving Local" initiative is handing out more than $10,500 to local nonprofits in Cumberland and York counties from Dec. 5 to Dec. 23. In some cases, staff will also volunteer with the organizations.
The initiative started Tuesday with TCFCU's $2,500 contribution to the Locker Project, a nonprofit that helps connect kids whose families struggle to feed them with healthy meals.
TCFCU staff also helped to pack hundreds of holiday bags to feed children and their families over the holiday break.
The 12 nonprofits selected represent a variety of causes including ending hunger, ending domestic violence, outdoor spaces, and protecting animals.
"Our objective through this new initiative is to both highlight and support local nonprofits and to thank them for what they do for our community," David Libby, the president and CEO of Town & Country, wrote.
"[This] contribution means so much at this time of year. Town & Country is a great community partner and we are very appreciative of the support," Kevin Bogart, the operations manager at the Locker Project, wrote.
