Kids recite Pledge of Allegiance for free scoop of their favorite ice cream flavor

Several Maine ice cream shops offer free ice cream scoop to any child who can recite the Pledge of Allegiance in celebration of Independence Day.

SANFORD, Maine — This Fourth of July, children and families are celebrating the holiday in the sweetest way possible—by indulging in ice cream and other delightful treats.

Two shops in Maine are making a special effort to create memorable experiences for their young customers.

At Shain's of Maine, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Children lined up at the front door, eager to participate in a unique holiday special.

The shop is offering a free ice cream scoop to any child who can recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

"For the Fourth, we figured we would run a fun and educational special this year, so we are doing free kiddies if you can recite the Pledge of Allegiance," Madison Cote, the manager at Shain's of Maine, said.

By 11 a.m., kids were enthusiastically celebrating America's birthday with flags and cold, sweet treats.

Even those who felt too nervous to recite the pledge still received their ice cream.

The scene was filled with joyful voices and eager anticipation as children decided between their favorite flavors—whether it be chocolate, vanilla, or mint chocolate chip.

Shain's of Maine, located in Sanford, will be open until 8 p.m. Thursday night, allowing plenty of time for families to join in the celebration.

Meanwhile, Toot's Ice Cream in North Yarmouth is also running the same promotion, making this Fourth of July a day to remember for ice cream lovers in different parts of the state.

This initiative not only provides a fun activity for children, but also instills a sense of national pride as they enjoy their delicious rewards. Whether in a cone or a cup, the sweet taste of freedom is in the air this Independence Day.
