CORINNA, Maine — Maine Lost Dog Recovery, an organization devoted to getting the word out on missing dogs in Maine, happily announced the recovery of a dog that had been on the run for five months.
The social media site for the organization posted a missing report for Pua, a large 3-year-old Great Dane and German Shepherd mix, in early June.
They announced on Nov. 4 that the dog had been humanely trapped by Animal Control Officer Russell Craft. He reportedly went missing on the day he was adopted in Dover-Foxcroft, was captured a few weeks later, and then took off again.
It was on a Facebook page called Pua Sightings, devoted entirely to finding Pua, that a video was posted right after Pua was trapped.

Given that there are 756 people in the Facebook group, it is obvious that Pua captivated the hearts of Mainers.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Pua's rehabilitation, training, and adoption process. As of 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 7, it had raised $935.
Mikayla Sproul, Somerset County Humane Society shelter manager, told the Piscataquis Observer that Pua is being cared for by the Somerset County Humane Society, which is providing him love, food, and a warm place to sleep. Sproul said despite people’s assumptions that Pua would be feral after months on the run, he has shown no signs of aggression and has acclimated well.
This isn't the first time a dog has returned in Maine after months away from home. In August, a dog named Bella was found alive near her home in Thomaston after missing for three months.
