KENNEBUNK, Maine — With the serious lack of rain we've had in Maine, there's been little mud to be found. But a horse in Kennebunk found some—and soon found himself in serious danger.
Monty, who weighs 2,200 pounds, got stuck on his side Monday and couldn't get up. As hypothermia began to set in, Kennebunk Fire-Rescue and an animal control officer responded to help.
The fire department had PVC pipes they blew air into from under Monty, which disturbed the mud suction and made it much easier and safer for emergency officials to pull him out with a tractor.
In a social media post, Monty's owner said she's had him since he was a baby and he's 15 years old now.
"Everyone’s quick response and engineering surely saved Monty’s life!" she wrote.
