THOMASTON, Maine — "In her younger days, they called her Delta Dawn. Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on."
Tonya is a far cry from country-music talent Tanya Tucker, but she certainly is a pretty lady. At 3 years old, this terrier/pitbull mix has plenty of love and energy to share with her next home.
Tonya is just under 40 pounds, which makes her a great medium-sized dog for adventures and snuggles.
"She loves everyone she meets. Stranger danger is really not a thing for her," Kasey Bielecki with the Pope Memorial Humane Society joked. She said Tonya came to them at the start of April. She had spent some time in a shelter in New York, too.
Kasey told us she's surprised Tonya hasn't been adopted yet because she is one of the sweetest animals there. If she gives off too much energy at first, it's because she's just so happy to meet new people. While she was a little shy with our cameras, Kasey said Tonya gets the zoomies when you give her extra love, including a barrage of kisses on her soft head.
Tonya is available for adoption at the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston.
