COLORADO (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Making friends with Mainers clearly comes easy to Mike Farrell.
The "M*A*S*H" star recently visited with firefighters at a command post in Colorado to thank them for their work to contain a wildfire. That's where he crossed paths with Jon Blackstone who traveled from Maine to lend his expertize as a Forest Ranger to the firefighting effort.
The Maine Forest Rangers posted a picture of the smiling pair on its Twitter feed. In the caption, Blackstone complimented Farrell as a "very nice guy."
Farrell played Army surgeon B.J. Hunnicutt on "M*A*S*H" for eight seasons from 1975 to 1983. The character was bunkmates and best friends with Hawkeye Pierce, who hailed from the fictional Maine town of Crabapple Cove. Together, they cracked jokes to keep their humanity through the horrors of the Korean War.
Just as his character fought stress with a smile, Farrell helped lighten the mood for Blackstone and his fellow firefighters.
