PORTLAND, Maine — Peak fall foliage conditions continue to sweep across Maine with vibrant oranges, reds, and yellows.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry released another Foliage Report for the season on Wednesday, reporting 50 to 100 percent moderate to peak foliage conditions throughout most of the state.
As of Wednesday, staff with the Maine Forest Service have reported peak and past peak foliage conditions with moderate to high leaf drop in foliage zones five, six, and seven. To see which areas are correlated with each zone, see the bottom of this story.
"Color changes in zones one through four are rapidly approaching peak," this week's report said. "Coastal Maine, zones one and two, typically are last to reach peak during mid-to-late October."
According to Maine's fall foliage spokesperson, Gale Ross, the storm this past weekend was no match against tampering with fall foliage progression across the state.
"Despite the wind-swept rain we've received in the past two weeks, Maine is still showing plenty of color, blended in with the green of the oaks along the immediate coast," Ross said in the report. "I spoke with Brandon Alfonso, park ranger in Acadia National Park, about conditions in the park. He observes that the park is 50-66 percent toward peak. He also noted that while the wind and rain in the Down East region knocked down quite a few leaves, there is still color in the birches contrasting with the greens in the oaks."
If you haven't already, be sure to hit the road and see some breathtaking views with beautiful fall foliage this weekend. It won't last forever!
