PORTLAND, Maine — St. Patrick's Day is on Sunday this year, and venues all across the state are grabbing their four-leaf clovers and buckets of gold to celebrate all weekend long.
Whether you're looking for entertainment, food, or a pint of Guinness, there is something for everyone.
Check out some of these events:
Portland
This Sunday, the Maine Irish Heritage Center in Portland is celebrating all day long, starting with raising the Irish flag at Harborview Park. In the afternoon anyone and everyone is invited to gather on Commercial Street for a parade hosted by the Irish American Club at noon.
"We usually get a good crowd. It's a very good time and we enjoy doing it," Bob Kearney, a parade organizer, said.
Kearney said there will be pipe bands, Irish dancers, fire trucks, superheroes, local mascots like Slugger of the Portland Sea Dogs, and more.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. for a prime viewing spot. The parade will begin at the intersection of Center Street and finish at the intersection of Franklin Street.
After the parade, the Maine Irish Heritage Center is opening its doors to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. to enjoy live music, games, food, and drinks.
"Last year we had around 300 [people], so we are not going to be surprised if we have 400 or more this year. It’s a great place to go after the parade," Irish Heritage Center board member, Jean Haney said.
