"Pink Tree Teacher" is Maine's newest guide

A Bangor High School teacher named Catherine Gordon got national attention at Christmas when she was ordered to take down a pink tree in her classroom. The community rallied around her.  Now Gordon has earned a Maine Guide's license which means she'll spend much of the summer amidst green trees.

BANGOR, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- Bangor High School math teacher Catherine Gordon achieved national attention in December when she was ordered to remove a pink tree from her class. Gordon posted about her sadness on her Facebook page and her post went viral.

"I heard from people all over including many former students which was nice," said Gordon. She feels the ordeal was worthwhile because it started a dialogue in the community.

When not teaching math, Gordon is an ardent outdoors woman. In early February, she became the newest Maine Registered Guide.

With this ticket, Katherine will be able to earn money guiding sports in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and other recreational activities.

Catherine is an enthusiastic person who also rides a huge 1600 C. C. Victory motorcycle. This summer, she will spent in quieter pursuits working for Gold Star Outfitters in China, Maine.
