PRINCETON, N.J. (NEWS CENTER) — Elle Logan is one of the greatest athletes the state of Maine has ever produced. Born in Portland and raised in Boothbay Harbor, Logan began rowing seriously while at prep school in Massachusetts. She went on to Stanford where she was named "Rower of the Century" in the Big 12 Conference according to the university.
"I can't believe I said that," laughed Logan when she was reminded that she thought she might compete in as many as five Olympics before her first Olympics in Beijing.
She thinks that is unlikely now. For one reason, the sport has gotten more competitive in part because of the success of the U. S. Women.
"Our coxswain is our youngest team member and she told me how inspired she was watching me as a kid," laughed the 28 year old Logan.
"That first team, there were like four people competing for the last two spots in the boat. Now we have two eights that are equally good. Our alternates are world champions," she told NEWS CENTER.
She is attempting to become the first American woman to win three gold medals in the sport of rowing.
After the Olympics, Elle hopes to spend some time this fall unwinding in her home state of Maine.
