Scarborough, Maine (NEWSCENTER Maine) -- The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states, 450 cities and towns, and 3,000 miles of people-powered trails from Maine to Florida —the country’s longest biking and walking route.
The trail begins in Calais and stretches 367 miles on what organizes call "a spine." This is a trail which is on a map, but shares roads with vehicles.
More than 133 miles is protected Greenway, most of which is off-road.
Two highlights are in Maine. The 87-mile Down East Sunrise Trail is the longest stretch of the Greenway to date.
The Eastern Trail is another highlight. It includes 22 miles of off-road trail which stretches from Bug Light in South Portland to Kennebunk.
