L.L.Bean Paddle Sports Weekend

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday - Sunday, LL Bean, Freeport. Free ($25 Outdoor Discovery School courses)

Whether paddling is new to you or you've been paddling for year, PaddleSports Weekend offers free paddleboarding and kayaking clinics for all levels, on-water demos, free paddleboard yoga and $25 L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools courses. Saturday: $5 paddlboard race and Seth Wescott will be there.


Harpswell Hiking Challenge

Saturday & Sunday, eight waterfront trails in Harpswell. Free.

In honor of National Trails Day: Hike eight scenic coastal walks with the challenge of completing all 10 miles of trail in two days. Pick up a registration form at the Harpswell Town Office. Complete them all and win prizes! PRIZES!

Family Fun Day

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Penobscot County Conservation Association, Brewer. Free.

Fly tying and fly fishing lessons, beginning basics of using air rifles, archery for beginners, canoe rides on the Penobscot River and much more. Lunch from noon to 1 p.m. All activities are free and lunch is by donation. Lots of trails and shoreline to explore, too!

Vegetarian Food Festival

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. East End School, 195 North Street, Portland. Free.

The Maine Animal Coalition invites you to their 10th Annual Vegetarian Food Festival. Learn about vegan and vegetarian food with music, vendors, local films, authors and experts. You just might leave wanting to actually eat your veggies (and you should, because vegetables are awesome).

"Casablanca"

8:15 p.m. Sunday, Congress Square Park, Portland. Free.

Bring a chair and maybe something to munch on (what's a movie without munchies, right?) and enjoy a free Sunday evening screening of "Casablanca." This is the first in the Portland Summer Films series, which will screen films on Sunday nights all summer.
