Penobscot Theatre Company says despite coronavirus, the show must go on!

Staff has increased the frequency of cleaning the public spaces, added hand sanitizer stations, and all seats are being disinfected before and after the shows.

BANGOR, Maine — As the outbreak of the coronavirus continues to spread, more and more people are choosing to cancel or postpone events.

But that's not the case at the Penobscot Theatre Company in Bangor.

According to theatre staff members, the risk of the virus remains low in Maine so the show must go on!

There's a new show, "Safety Net", starting on Thursday, March 12.

Bari Newport, the producing artistic director at the theater, says the Penobscot Theatre Company says all the classes, performances and events are to-date and proceeding as planned.

Theatre staff has increased the frequency of cleaning the public spaces, adding hand sanitizer stations, and cleaning seats and armrests before and after performances.

"We've taken every precaution that we can to make sure that the story is being told in a way where people can be transported and not be worried," Newport said.

Staff and audience members who are not feeling well are encouraged to stay home.

"In addition to the fact that gathering people together is the core of our art form and our business, we want to make sure that people no matter where they are coming from are feeling safe and clean," Newport said.

Ticket exchange fees will be waived for anyone wishing to postpone their trip to the Penobscot Theater in Bangor for any upcoming show.
