YARMOUTH, Maine — If you're a fan of the hit TV show "American Idol," chances are you were thrilled to see Cumberland native Julia Gagnon tearing up the stage with her powerhouse vocals—making it to the top seven.
Well, guess what? The local superstar has been named grand marshal for this year's Yarmouth Clam Festival parade.
Festival organizers announced it in a Friday social media post.
"This year's theme, 'Pop Culture Phenomena,' aligns perfectly with Julia's incredible journey and rising stardom, exemplifying how local talent can capture national attention," the post stated. "Julia's achievements on American Idol have made her a pop culture icon, and we are excited to celebrate her success and roots within our community. Join us in honoring Julia and experience the vibrant energy she brings to our beloved festival with events through the weekend!"
The 57th annual Yarmouth Clam Festival is Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21.
Festivities include the highly anticipated parade, local artists, crafts, classic Maine foods, a carnival, and more.
