LEWISTON, Maine — The Maine wrestling community will gather at the Lewiston Colisee Saturday night for the 2024 Vacationland Cup.
It's the biggest show of the year for Limitless Wrestling and its first show at that arena. Owner Randy Carver Jr. expects it could be its biggest show ever. More than 1,000 fans are expected to attend what Carver called a '"love letter to Maine professional wrestling."
“The first impression is everything, and I think we’re going to have a lot of first-time viewers in the house for this one," he said.
The show will honor the state's wrestling history and will have matches featuring legendary local wrestlers like Scotty 2 Hotty and Dirty Dango. It's also a chance for Mainers to watch the next crop of up-and-coming wrestlers.
Limitless Wrestling has been putting on shows across Maine for the last nine years. Carver said he and a group of friends and wrestling enthusiasts wanted to do something different and put a new twist on independent shows in the state and work to bring the biggest names in wrestling to Maine.
Planning for Saturday's show has been going on for months, and Carver said it has presented new challenges such as setting up the Colisee's video board as part of the entertainment. As Limitless takes its next step forward, Carver said all the success wouldn't be possible without a loyal community.
“What’s never wavered is the support of people who are behind this, the support of people who are involved in it, and that’s what keeps us moving. I mean, that’s what makes big steps like this show possible," he explained.
Carver said close to 1,000 tickets have already been sold ahead of Saturday, adding that if you've ever wanted to experience a live independent wrestling show, this is the one to go to.
