Allagash Brewing hosts first-ever Camp Allagash

Organizers said the "summer camp" is aimed at increasing community programming for locals and vacationers in the area to enjoy.

PORTLAND, Maine — Beer lovers and outdoors enthusiasts got a chance to combine their passions at the first-ever Camp Allagash event in Portland.

Hosted the week of Aug. 11 at Allagash Brewing Company, attendees were able to enjoy quintessential summer camp activities, like friendship bracelet making, camp trivia, or even going on a bird-watching walk with members of the Maine Audubon Society throughout the camp.

Emily Wallace, director of hospitality at Allagash Brewing, said thousands of Mainers and vacationers were able to enjoy activities throughout the week.

"It's a healthy mix, a lot of locals and a lot of people we recognize—some of our regulars we don't normally see during the summer," Wallace said.

This is the first year the brewing company has hosted Camp Allagash, and organizer said they plans to repeat it in the future.

Wallace said it's part of a larger focus to increase programming at the brewery, to foster a comfortable place for people to enjoy themselves.

"This year, we've leaned heavily into programming public events for people to come out to," Wallace said. "It's something we used to do before the pandemic."

Wallace added the brewery has also recently opened a kids play-place for younger generations to enjoy as well.

Camp Allagash is open to all ages and is designed to feature activities the whole family can enjoy—not just those of legal drinking age.
