BOOTHBAY, Maine — Alright Mainers, it’s that time of year again. The holidays are fast approaching, and what kind of a season would it be without some serious holiday lighting?
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay posted on social media Thursday to say it’s been “all hands on deck” as staff starts stringing, hanging, and weaving over 750,000 energy-efficient LED lights for its annual "Gardens Aglow" display.
Now that’s a lot of lights.
To put things into perspective; stretched out, those lights would measure about 66 miles long, which is further than the distance from Boothbay to South Portland. “While it may not be too far to drive, it is a lot of lights to wrap up,” the post stated.
Excitement is building
Celebrating 10 years of Gardens Aglow, it's no surprise visitors ran to the Facebook comments.
"We look forward to this every year. We’ve made it part of our traditions to visit the weekend before Christmas every year," one visitor wrote.
"You always outdo yourself each year!" Another person wrote.
So, if you are looking for a new holiday family tradition, perhaps Gardens Aglow is it.
"Join in the celebration of ten dazzling years of Gardens Aglow! An annual tradition for many Maine and New England families, more than 780,000 visitors have experienced the magic of the region’s premier light show. In addition to two of our popular Trolls, you’ll find an enchanting forest with mushrooms and shooting stars," the company website states.
Gardens Aglow will kick off Nov. 16 and run through Dec. 31 Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, with some select dates.
