Recall issued for meat products with possible salmonella contamination

The recall falls across seven stores in several states, including Shaw's locations in Maine.

MAINE, USA — Albertsons Companies has issued a voluntary recall of multiple store-made items containing certain meat products due to possible salmonella contamination.

Six items made with recalled Dietz & Watson charcuterie meat products produced by Fratelli Beretta have been recalled across seven stores in multiple states, according to a news release. The recall includes gourmet charcuterie sampler bags, sliced charcuterie, and a ReadyMeals Italian ciabatta sandwich that were sold at ACME, Albertsons, Balducci’s Food Lover’s Market, Kings Food Markets, Safeway, Shaw’s and Star Market stores.

States included in the recall are: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the state of Washington.

No known reports of injuries or adverse reactions have been made after consuming the recalled products, the release stated.

"Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the release.

According to the Maine CDC website, symptoms may begin within six hours to six days after infection and can last for four to seven days. Symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain, and contaminated foods typically look and smell normal, the website stated.

Those who purchased the recalled items are advised not to consume the products and to either throw them away or return the items for a refund.

"Consumers with questions should contact Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PST," the release stated.
