BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Two candidates running for Maine's Second District congressional seat in 2016 are revealing how much money they have raised so far.

Bruce Poliquin's campaign said it has broken a first quarter fundraising record, with already putting $700,000.00 in his campaign fund.

According to a report released by the campaign, 60 percent of that total, more than $400,000, came from individuals. The other 40 percent is from non-individuals, which include political action committees and other members of Congress.

Meanwhile, Cain's campaign said it has raised more than $135,000 so far. It said that 80 percent of its money came from Maine residents and points out Cain only began campaigning again in early March.

A spokesman for Poliquin told NEWS CENTER donations to the rRpublican's campaign spiked that same month.

"A very large percentage of the money the congressman raised came to the campaign committee in the month of March," said Brent Littlefield of Littlefield Consulting, LLC. "We expect to run a very aggressive campaign."

Both Poliquin and Cain's filings with the Federal Election Commission will be made public Wednesday.

They will include more detailed information about who exactly is donating to each campaign.
