(NEWS CENTER Maine) — The Democratic field for governor got less crowded Saturday after candidates Sean Faircloth of Bangor and Jim Boyle of Gorham dropped out of the gubernatorial race.
Faircloth announced on Saturday that he would drop out and said he would endorse former Speaker of the House Mark Eves.
On Friday, Boyle released a statement on his Facebook page, writing, "I want to thank all of the people who have supported my campaign, who have volunteered and contributed, and who are committed to making Maine a better place."
The former Bangor mayor admitted he is not on pace to secure the individual donations necessary required by the Clean Elections law.
11 Democratic candidates remain in the race. Additional candidates are expected to withdraw by March 15, which is the deadline to collect a minimum of 2,000 petition signatures to qualify for the June primary ballots.
