AUBURN, Maine — Police are investigating after a 25-year-old Androscoggin County Jail resident died Saturday night.
According to a news release from the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Trevor Saunders was found unresponsive by an officer during required checks. Saunders reportedly appeared to have suffered from a medical issue and died at approximately 8:10 p.m.
Lifesaving measures were performed and Auburn Fire-Rescue responded, the sheriff's office said.
Saunders was serving a 45-day sentence for operating after habitual offender revocation and had been at the Androscoggin County Jail since Oct. 25.
Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating and the Office of Chief Medical Examiner was notified of his death. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Saunders' cause of death, the sheriff's office said.
His death is not considered suspicious at this time.
"As part of our protocols the Maine Department of Corrections was also notified and will also conduct their own independent investigation into the matter," the sheriff's office said.
