HOUSTON — Two crew members were killed and another was flown to the hospital following a fire on board a container ship Monday morning, the Port of Houston confirmed.
This happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal.
The U.S. Coast Guard reported the fire was on board the container ship STRIDE.
Port officials said the fire was extinguished and that there was no threat to the community. However, the Port Houston Fire Department will monitor the ship for 24 hours.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office and the Medical Examiner's Office also responded to the scene.
Baytown and La Porte fire departments provided aid in extinguishing the fire, the port said,
