OLD ORCHARD BEACH (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a motel variety store in Old Orchard Beach.
Old Orchard Beach police said they received a 911 call shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday reporting a robbery in progress at the Moby Dick Variety and Motel on East Grand Avenue.
Police told NEWS CENTER Maine a the suspect walked into the store, demanded money and showed the cashier a weapon. They said a terse, verbal exchange ensued and the suspect ran off without any money.
The clerk had reportedly confronted the male suspect with a club, police later said in a release.
According to police, the suspect was wearing similar clothing that has been seen in a recent string of similar thefts: a black coat, ski mask and sunglasses.
Portland and Scarborough police provided K-9 units to assist OOB police in their search for a suspect.
