PARSONSFIELD (NEWS CENTER Maine) — The clubhouse of a 100-year-old golf course in Parsonsfield was mostly destroyed by a multi-alarm fire late Wednesday night.
Video of the fire showed a majority of the property's structures fully engulfed.
The Wakefield, New Hampshire, Fire Department posted a photo from the scene to its Facebook page, reporting at least two engines had responded to the fire.
Crews not only had to deal with the flames but also treacherous snowy conditions as a nor'easter made its way through the state.
Just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, the golf club's restaurant announced in a Facebook post it would be closing early at 7 p.m. due to the storm. "We fully plan to open tomorrow at 4pm as usual," the post reads, "but keep your eyes out here if Mother Nature hits us harder than expected! Stay safe, stay well…"
According to its website, Province Lake Golf was originally built in 1918 by Joseph Emery, a native of New Hampshire and then-president of Lord & Taylor, the nation's oldest department store company.
The course is among the oldest in the state.
