(NEWS CENTER Maine) — Bethel native Troy Murphy finished in 17th place Monday morning in the first round of finals in Olympic men's moguls.
Murphy scored a 72.72 after sitting back a little after landing his second jump. Murphy needed to finish in the top 12 to move onto the second round.
Murphy is a Gould Academy alumni. Faculty and students at Gould gathered to watch Murphy Monday morning.
This is Troy Murphy's first Olympic games. His most recent World Cup ranking was 12th (2017/18).
Murphy placed fourth (80.95) out of 30 competitors in the first qualifying round — 14.51 for time, 14.75 for air and 51.7 for turns. He has advanced to Monday's finals.
