ORONO, Maine — A home on Main Street in Orono was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning, and the three occupants were taken to a nearby hospital.
Crews responded to 287 Main St. shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to a release from the Orono Fire Department.
Upon arrival, first responders found advanced fire conditions in the rear of the building, the release stated. One of the three residents of the home was forced to jump from a second-floor window to escape the flames, officials said.
All three residents were transported by University Ambulance Corp. to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. As of Tuesday morning, their conditions were unknown, according to the fire department.
"The home, unattached garage, and the contents of each are a total loss," the release said. "The fire is currently under investigation and is not considered suspicious at this time."
Fire departments from Orono, Old Town, Veazie, Bangor, Milford, Glenburn, Bradley, and Hermon responded to the scene. Orono police, Maine State Police, and the Office of State Fire Marshal also assisted.
