PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Student walkouts are back on schedule at several schools across Maine after a snowstorm forced their postponement.
The walkouts are part a national movement organized by students to demand action to make schools safer. The campaign was launched in response to the shooting deaths of 17 people last month at a school in Parkland, Fla.
Walkouts were held simultaneously across the country at 10 a.m. on March 14 to mark a month since the Parkland shooting. But many Maine students were unable to participate because of a snowstorm that closed their schools.
Here is a list of the rescheduled walkouts:
THURSDAY, MARCH 15
- Cape Elizabeth High School
- Casco Bay High School
- Newport High School
- Portland High School
- South Portland High School
- Mt. Ararat High School (Topsham)
FRIDAY, MARCH 16
- Bangor High School
- Brewer High School
- MDI High School
- Orono High School
MONDAY, MARCH 19
- Edward Little High School (Auburn)
The above list is a work in progress. We will add any other schools where walkouts are planned as we learn about them.
